Chapter 69: They Are All Villains
Yang Huayue said coquettishly, “You’re not old, brother Yi! You are young and strong.”
She did not listen to what Lu Yi said.
“Haha, I’m already fifty and much older than you all,” Lu Yi knew Yang Huayue was being a sycophant. He saw the two pretty girls with such talents, they were rare among their generation, “Neither of you has a boyfriend, right?”
This question made both Liu Man and Yang Huayue feel awkward. Liu Man felt awkward because she came from ancient China, and she was shy. Yang Huayue blinked and smiled, “Of course not; why don’t you introduce a nice candidate for me?”
Lu Yi shook his head and laughed, “Both of you probably have enough admirers to circle the Earth! Just pick your favorite. Besides, nowadays, young kids like you won’t be grateful even if I spend all my time trying to get you a nice boy.”
This topic involved privacy matters, and the trio stopped talking about it. None of them took it seriously, though.
Lu Yi was no different from normal elders when he talked nonsense to Liu Man and Yang Huayue. Qiao Xin had been waiting outside, too. He was about the same age as Yang Huayue, but he showed no intention to chat with her and kept on playing with his phone. Anyways, he was the male lead, and he had to seem superior.
The trio talked about random things for a long while before someone came to remind them that they were starting to shoot the next scene.
There were two parts for the next scene, and Liu Man did not appear in any of them. One part happened in the living room, another in Lu Yi and Cheng Fenglan’s bedroom. The bedroom was not eight square-meters in area, and the two videographers had to stand on the bed.
The first part was starting:
After that argument, the entire temperament in the house was dull and suppressing.
Gu Juan came back from shopping for dinner ingredients and realized there was something wrong. Ji An’s bedroom door was locked, Ji Liguo sat on Gu Qing’s bed in the living room and was smoking, Ji An was standing at one side with her arms crossed, and Gu Qing was sitting on a chair with his eyebrows furrowed. Nobody was saying anything.
“You three, what’s going on?”
Ji An snorted, “Ji Ning locked the bedroom. I can’t get in.”
Gu Juan guessed the reason behind it, “You were arguing again?”
“I really can’t believe it. You, two girls, argue every day. Can’t you take a break? Ji Ning had just arrived here, and you should tolerate her a little.”
Ji An felt angry, “She’s the older sibling, and I’m younger than her. She should be the one to tolerate me.”
She then said as if she was gloating, “Ji Ning was saying bad things about dad behind him. He found out, and now she’s too embarrassed to come out. Who is there to blame?”
Gu Juan quickly dropped her shopping bag into the public kitchen shared by the entire building, walked back into the living room, and pulled Ji Liguo into her small bedroom.
That was the first part.
Cheng Fenglan had a lot of lines to say. She came out from the small bedroom, sipped some water from a straw, then went back.
The second part started.
She closed the door, locked it, turned around, and started to berate Ji Liguo.
“Why are you taking Ji Ning so seriously? Are you a pig?”
Ji Liguo still felt upset and said with an angry tone, “You did not hear how she talked about me behind my back. She did not think of me as her father, and she took all of my kindness for granted. I’d rather not have this daughter, not have this burden.”
Gu Juan glared at him, “You are a pig. How is Ji Ning a burden? She’s a treasure.”
“What do you mean?”
“Didn’t her biological mother live a good life in America? I heard her only family member was Ji Ning, so all her money went to Ji Ning after she died.”
Ji Liguo froze. His anger gradually disappeared and was replaced by a pondering expression.
“Now that Qing Qing and An An are growing up, do you think it’s still appropriate for us to live in this poor house?” Gu Juan’s expression and tone were manipulative. She probably wanted to say this a long time ago, “Don’t try to lie to me. I’ve already heard your ex-wife was a magnate, and you were the one who helped her raise Ji An. Taking her money to buy a better house isn’t a big deal, right?”
“Where did you hear this from?” Ji Liguo frowned.
“You don’t have to mind about that. Now that Ji Ning is living in our house, I am somewhat her mother. We are taking her in, and it’s reasonable for her to pay us a little fee, right? I’ve already devoted myself to you before I divorced. We’ve been together for more than ten years, and I even divorced just for you. Ten years of being impoverished, I endured all of that. I’ve always treated An An nicely, so don’t you think you should compensate me?”
“To be honest, I’ve never thought about using that money. That money is what she left for Ji Ning.” Ji Liguo showed an ambivalent expression. At this time, there was still a bit of humanity and love as a father left in him.
“Then, what about An An? Isn’t she also An An’s mother? Don’t you think An An deserves a better life? If An An finds a boyfriend in the future and brings him into such a dilapidated home, you still believe she will be able to get married? How will her husband’s parents treat her? No, no, no. Their background needs to match us. Her future husband’s family will be poor, too. If one generation is poor, then the next generations will also be penurious. There will be no good future ahead of us.”
Gu Juan was getting angrier as she continued. She looked even more upset than how Ji Liguo was. She was thinking of Ji An’s future in every word she said.
Ji Liguo’s brows furrowed even more.
Gu Juan knew he seemed to be persuaded by her and continued to say exaggeratedly,
“We should change to a new house just for An An’s future. Also, Qing Qing cannot keep on sleeping in the living room. He treats you like a biological father. In the future, when our two girls get married and live in someone else’s house, we will only be depending on Qing Qing. If you mistreat him now when you get older, how would Qing Qing treat you? Qing Qing has such good grades, and when he goes to college in the future, he will need more money. You were the one who raised him, and you know his personality. If you spend the money on him, he will repay you later. We can’t let Ji Ning take all this money and marry someone else; we’ll receive no benefit! Do you believe Ji Ning’s husband, an unfamiliar person to you, would be better than your son and treat you better?”
As expected, Gu Juan knew Ji Liguo and said everything that was on his mind.
She took Ji Liguo’s arm, “You should go apologize to Ji Ning right now and discuss buying a new house.”
“How much money do you want to borrow from her? Where do you want the house to be at?” Ji Liguo was completely on Gu Juan’s side, now.
Sure enough, the saying was right. With a step-mother, even a biological father would become a step-father.
“Borrow as much as you can, duh. Buy a garden villa, preferably one downtown. We have three children in our family, and we will have friends and cousins visiting us at times. If the house is too small, it won’t be good enough either.”
Ji Liguo was shocked, “A garden villa?! I’ve never even thought about living in a garden villa my whole life. How is that any different from day-dreaming?”
“Then you can start thinking about it now. Ji Ning lived in a garden villa when she was in America. Don’t you look at me like that and stop asking me where I heard this. The urgency right now is for you to get the money from her and buy the garden villa.”
