Chapter 80
Hunter Desmond Astryd’s agent, Elaisa Rossi Etvretka.
“Desmond, I found out through the records of your notebook that you achieved advancement to one-star class. I must say that I am amazed; you should know that it takes months for a normal person to reach that level with the same conditions that you had. But I was not talking to you about this in particular. A mission has emerged that I think is perfect for you, it would help you earn a lot of credits, and if you do it well, it could also help to cover part of the lack of equipment in your arsenal. It is not a particularly difficult mission, but it is quite boring, so not many people were willing to take it; if you are interested, come to the headquarters so we can talk about it “>
′′ Speaking of privacy breaches, although I guess it’s her job to know this kind of thing, otherwise, she wouldn’t know exactly what kind of mission I need. ′′
Thinking that this mission really suited my current needs and then remembering that I still had a couple of days off before Claire’s Awakening ceremony, I thought it would be a good idea to find ways to source resources and increase my strength for whatever purpose unexpected.
′′ Kyuru !, come here my incredibly adorable companion. ′′ I said, raising my voice and speaking playfully.
Flying at full speed with a small and colorful ball in her hands, my dear and playful fairy of blessings came out of somewhere. With a warm smile lighting up her plump little face, Kyuru, who loved flattery, came in front of me.
′′ What do you need, my powerful guardian? ′′ Said the fairy playfully.
′′ Where were you? ′′ I asked with curiosity when I saw the fairy somewhat agitated by so much playing.
.....
′′ I was playing with a new friend. ′′ She said happily.
Thinking about how she became friends with flowers last week and then friends with butterflies the next day, I didn’t give much thought to her new friendship; right now, I had more important things to think about.
′′ Kyuru, I’m going on a mission soon, so I need you to take care of Claire. ′′
′′ Mmm, do you expect something to happen? ′′ She said, confused.
′′ Not really, but her awakening ceremony will be soon, and I’m not sure how long it will take me to get back, so I need you to be in Claire’s care in case of any unforeseen events. ′′ I said seriously.
′′ Don’t worry, Desmond, she is my friend, so I will keep Claire safe. ′′ She said to the fairy, patting her chest proudly.
Patting the enthusiastic fairy on the head, I headed to my room to pack my things. The chat with Claire would have to wait until she came back from school, she was originally supposed to take her classes online with her old school, but the local school was very understanding of our circumstances and accepted it without problems.
Seeing that it would be a couple of hours before Claire returned, I decided to go to the I.S.H headquarters to chat with Elaisa about the mission and speak with Claire when I got back.
Reaching the basement, I pulled out my notebook, and the now-familiar menu instantly appeared in front of me.
I don’t think I have to explain the use of the communications function since the only non-obvious thing about it is that it is also used to initiate teleportation to headquarters. And so, after a short and strange magical journey, I ended up again in the lobby that I visited the last time. Waiting for me, there was Elaisa, who received me with a charming smile. It is almost ridiculous that the girl is single, I am tempted to ask about it, but my intuition tells me that instead of answers, I will get a kick in the crotch.
′′ It is always a pleasure to see your beautiful eyes Elaisa. ′′ I said cheekily.
′′ Desmond! I told you not to mention that. ′′ Giving the ground an undeserved stomp, Elaisa expressed.
′′ I remember you mentioned not to mention it unless I wanted to get in trouble. . . But I’ve never minded getting in trouble, plus I wouldn’t be a man if I couldn’t even give a well-deserved compliment to a lady as beautiful as you. ′′ I exclaimed calmly with the most shameless attitude that I had given Elaisa. In fact, I did not know where that behavior came from, but I felt that it was the most natural way of being myself.
I had never been a person of restrictions, the only reason they were present in my life was to take care of Claire’s quality of life and the opinion that she had of me, but given our last conversations, I don’t think that matters more. Also, since my breakthrough into one-star class, I noticed that my personality had changed very slightly, probably due to my elemental affinities and the mental state accompanying them. The truth is that the reason behind my changes was not really important but the fact that I enjoyed being the way I am now.
′′ Okay, just don’t talk too loud, silly. ′′ Impotent and somewhat flushed, Elaisa expressed a last request before my impudence.
Shrugging my shoulders in response, we went to Elaisa’s office to discuss our affairs. On the way, I suggested that we order something to eat, to which she replied.
′′ Why do I feel like you just want to eat hamburgers again? ′′
An ironic smile decorates my face when I see my thoughts being read by my cute companion.
′′ Then tell me about the mission you have for me. ′′
′′ Desmond. . . What do you think of mining? ′′ Express Elaisa in a somewhat dubious way.
′′ It depends on the pay. ′′
′′ Oh, trust me, the pay is amazing. It will help you earn some credits and easily add some things to your arsenal. ′′
′′ In that case, you can consider me the next king of the miners. ′′ I said, hitting my chest and using an expression that someone would have before going to the battlefield.
′′ Hahahaha silly, I don’t need you to aspire to that much, but the mission will certainly be somewhat demanding. ′′
After laughing some more, Elaisa proceeded to explain some details to me about the mission, its origin, and the place I needed to go to complete it.
